Chaos At Delhi Airport As Thousands Of Bags Misplaced

A situation of utter confusion and inconvenience was caused when bags of thousands of passengers were allegedly misplaced due to sudden system failure. As a result of which some of the flights were also delayed that added to the chaos.

Among the passengers who were stuck at the Airport were Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP Hema Malini, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav, as reported by PTI. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal arrived at a function in Mumbai hours behind its schedule as his flight from Delhi was delayed.

Power Banks and lighters behind the confusion
The airport operator from The GMR- led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) claimed that the inconvenience is caused due to the high number of check-ins of dangerous items such as power-banks, lighters in the checked-in luggage of the travelers. He also said that because the suspected baggage was being manually traced to its owner and then the restricted items were removed which led to the slow handling of the luggage.

He further added that the situation was “out of control” as the rush was 30% more than the usual days majorly because of a long holiday weekend.

The passengers expressed their grievances over twitter. One of the tweets reads, “After being ranked as the No.1 Airport of the world, such problems are being faced by the passengers. Does #DelhiAirport needs a retest?” The airline also took to Twitter to apologize for the inconvenience. Vistara Airlines issued a statement later in the evening saying that bags of thousands of passengers could not be loaded on the flight and that the issue has been immediately reported to the airport officials.

The Airport officials further added that articles like power banks, lighter can be fatal and hence the passengers are advised not to carry such dangerous items that can affect your life and the smooth functioning of the airport.
