1. Cholamu Lake, Sikkim

Situated at 18000 ft. above the sea level, Cholamu Lake is the highest freshwater lake in India and 14th highest globally. The scenic beauty of this place and the flock of birds visiting this lake gives it the number one spot among the top 5 frozen lakes in India. The area is a bit army sensitive which is why only Indians are allowed to visit the place. So, ‘be proud to be an Indian!’

2. Gurudongmar Lake, Sikkim

Encircled by scenic view and beauty of Mount Siniolchu and Khanchendzonga, Gurudongmar Lake is situated at an altitude of approx. 17,800 ft. This is one of the most beautiful lakes of our country, hence, it earns the second spot on our list of the top 5 frozen lakes in India. Not only this, it is also the second-highest lake in India. It is believed that the water of the lake has healing powers which why it has a religious angle as well. Ahhhh Magic!

3. Tsomoriri Lake, Ladakh

At 4595 ft. above the sea level, Rupshu Valley is truly blessed to have a marvel like Tsomoriri Lake. It adds a romantic angle to the adventurous trip. It is downright beautiful not just during winters but also in summer season (So if cold does bother you, visit in summers). 4. Roopkund Lake, Uttarakhand

This by far is one of the most favorite places for trekkers and mountaineers because of the altitude and also because of the history attached to it. Roopkund Lake is at 5000 ft, gives a clear view of the Himalayas and is a perfect trekking location. The main attractions of the lake are the snow, virgin forest, and awe-inspiring campsites.

5. Pangong Lake

Remember the last scene from the movie 3 Idiots? Yes, that very lake where Aamir Khan is seeing flying an airplane and teaching young kids, that’s Pangong Lake. It is located 160 km from Leh Ladakh and is 7 km wide and 130 km in length. 3 idiots isn’t a reason to award 5th position on the list of Top 5 frozen lakes in India, but it’s because of the 7 variety of colors which you can see from different angles. Apart from this, you can also see multiple birds that migrate from different countries. It is a sight to behold!
